The Cornwall Symphony Chorus is one of the largest mixed voice choirs in the West Country with over 160 members, and although newly formed has already made a huge impact wherever they perform. The repertoire spreads across all aspects of music and includes classical, oratorio, showstoppers, opera, blues, folk music and jazz.
Most remarkable is the fact that so many people can join together to make superb music that makes any audience sit up and take notice, yet still manage to create a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, with members leaving rehearsals and concerts alike with a buzz of excitement, and a vibrant confidence in where the chorus is heading.
Credit must go to the Musical Director Alastair Taylor, who started the Symphony Chorus and has put his heart and soul into it ever since. He not only directs, he also accompanies at rehearsals, and with his magnificent baritone voice and piano playing virtuosity, even acts as our guest artist on occasions, justifiably earning standing ovations
As well as producing a phenomenal musical sound and bringing top class soloists to audiences in the County, the Chorus has managed to raise over £5,500 for charity including Cancer Research UK, Macmillan Nursing and CLIC Sargent (Cancer in Children)
We rehearse on the 1st and 3rd Sunday at Redruth School between 2.30pm and 4.30pm approximately once a month,(see the ‘rehearsals’ page for details with additional practices nearer concert dates.
Even though we are a big chorus, our membership list is not closed and we would welcome anybody who would like to join us. An ability to read music is not a qualification, and formal auditions are not held.
If you are interested in joining this fantastic group of singers, then please contact anyone from the choir (see contacts page on this site), or turn up on a rehearsal day and make yourself known to us and either listen or join in. You are assured of a warm and friendly welcome.
