Rehearsals are going really well here. Dusting off our Christmas music today to start preparing for our popular Christmas concert. As you can guess, as it’s only September, that we prepare months in advance so that we can give the best sound as possible for you.
With the wonderfully witty Duncan Warren from Radio Cornwall compering and with the added bonus ofsinging to an almost full venue, the Chorus held the attention of the whole audience and received rapturous applause throughout the evening. As a returning guest performer for the Concert, Chris Bannister kept everyone entertained with his ‘John Denver’ style of singing and the perfectly combined voices of both Chris and Chorus members with their rendition of Annie’s Song (sung twice as it was so well received) resulted in a standing ovation from the audience with calls for this to be recorded and sold for Charity.
Attendance at St Michaels Church, Newquay is always good and there is no doubt Cornwall Symphony Chorus will sing there again. I feel sure we will hear the same class of positive comments next time.
As promised, we can now confirm the details of our next Concert which will be held on Saturday 5th August at Newquay.
We are really excited that Chris Bannister is joining us again as our guest singer; he has been very popular when performing with us at previous Concerts and we are certain this show will be no different.
Tickets are now on sale and are selling fast so don’t delay in purchasing them – they can be acquired through various outlets as well as online. All the information regarding the Concert is in the advert below.
See you there!
Saturday evening’s concert at St Johns Methodist Church, St Austell was well received by all those who attended. Our latest offering, including several new pieces, alongside the exciting and professional offering by St Austell Youth Band, produced enthusiastic applause as well as, at times, participation by the audience.
The venue was new to Cornwall Symphony Chorus but was well loved by all – singers, musicians and audience alike. We hope to be able to perform there again in the future.
For anyone who was not able to join us at this recent concert don’t worry. Our next creation will be on Saturday, 5th August in Newquay at St Michael’s Church. Our guest for that evening will be the exceptionally talented singer/songwriter Chris Bannister who always commands a high turnout so ensure you get your tickets early! Tickets aren’t quite ready yet but watch this space!
It is with great sadness that we have to inform you that our President; Lady Mary Holborow, sadly passed away recently and our thoughts go out to her family. When we initially approached Lady Mary with our proposition for her to be our President, she was pleased to be asked, especially as she appreciated what we did to support Charities, but worried she would not be able to be an overly active President! However, she still managed to be very supportive of Cornwall Symphony Chorus and attended our Concerts whenever she was able to do so; something she took great pleasure from, as well as attending our first Dinner & Dance in 2015 which, she informed me, was viewed as an opportunity to relax in a welcoming environment.
As many others have said, Lady Mary will be remembered for her easy ability to talk to people, her grace and compassion, her tireless work ethos, her wry sense of humour and her winning smile and I am sure I am not alone when I say that she will be greatly missed, as President, advocate and friend, by all of us in Cornwall Symphony Chorus.
Our next concert will be at St. John’s Methodist Church in St. Austell on Saturday 24th June at 7.30pm.
Our guest for this concert will St. Austell Youth Band (Musical Director Anna Minnear).

This will be a wonderful event and we look forward to seeing you there.
This year’s Christmas Concert was another resounding success.
As in previous years, the concert sold out extremely quickly and so the Chorus and our guests; The Duchy Tuba Quartet, entertained a packed house who were happy to participate by singing and swaying.
If you were unable to get a ticket for the Concert or simply want to see the Chorus perform again, we will be singing at Truro Cathedral on Wednesday 21st December at 8pm; the last late night shopping event in Truro before ‘the big day’. So, after completing your last minute shopping, come along to the Cathedral, relax and really get into the Christmas mood by listening to the wonderful voices of Cornwall Symphony Chorus.
We hope to see you there.
Our next Concert is our well-loved Christmas Concert at Truro Methodist Church on Saturday 3rd December. Our guest soloists this year are The Duchy Tuba Quartet, with returning compere Bruce Taylor.
Ticket prices are £10 and, as this is always a sell-out, we would strongly recommend purchasing your tickets as soon as possible.

We had an extremely successful concert recently when we performed at the Children’s Hospice South West’s Silver Celebration Concert in Truro. We were invited to sing as guest performers together with the Truro Junior String Orchestra to acknowledge all of the wonderful work that Children’s Hospice South West has accomplished for the last 25 years; caring for life limited children and their families throughout the region.
It was a wonderfully warm evening but the chorus performed to their usual incredible standard and delivered an extremely professional performance which delighted the very full house.
Sarah Stott, Senior Fundraiser for Little Harbour said, “Thank you so much for your amazing performance at our celebration concert; the evening raised a fantastic £3435.70 and we are so grateful to you for your contribution to the night being a success. We couldn’t help so many going through so much without the generosity and support of special people like you. Thank you for helping us make the most of short and precious lives”.
We have a concert coming up on Saturday 13th August with Camborne Town Band.
We are performing at the Redruth Wesley Methodist church at 7.30.
